Hair straightening (home straightener) hair care products?

Hi there,

I've been straightening my hair for probably three years now. I've had the same hair straightener the whole time, and have never ever used any hair care products with it.

I now have a new hair straightener (It's not wet-to-dry btw, you can only use it on dry hair). the ceramic plates don't feel nearly as soft as my first straightener, so that was disappointing, but anyway...

I don't want to damage my hair any more than I already have, and I was told there are products you can use on your hair to prevent damage from the heat process and stuff.

Now, I have dyed hair as well btw. I use Pantene Pro-V shampoo + conditioner every morning, and Pantene Pro-V 3 minute miracle, every 3 - 9 days (varies).

So what products can I use on my hair to prevent damage from the straightener?

Thank you very much :)Hair straightening (home straightener) hair care products?
The heat protecting spray is a great idea- you spray it on damp hair evenly, then comb it thorugh and let it dry, then lightly spray it again right before you straighten for that extra layer of protection. I know it sounds like alot, but it really does protect your hair if you put enough on.

I like to spray the tresemme on damp hair, let it airdry, then spray the beyond the zone turn up the heat heat protecting spray right before i straighten for added shine:

Also, DONT wash your hair every day. This is bad because the shampoo dries out the natural oils in your hair, which strips your hair of its natural protection. Also, if you don't wahs your hair everyday, you don't have to straighten it all the way every day, which saves you time and damage to your hair. When you take a shower on days you don't wash your hair, just clip it up and touch it up a little bit before you leave.

Pantene is infamous for the layer of wax it creates around your hair from the polymers in it's shampoo/conditioner. TO get rid of this and prevent your hair from becoming greasy, use a clarifying shampoo once a week:

Thank you Allison and Leanne, I loved both of your ideas.

I hate Hamn's ideas... And will continue to wash my hair as per regularly... My hair never gets greasy after a day...

Sorry I didn't get time to pick my own Best Answer, I was on vacation for a week. Thank you guys x

You can use a heat protection spray before you straighten, which will help your hair from getting damaged by the heat. Sounds like you take good care of your hair already though, but I would definately get a heat protection spray.
i love the treseme heat protecting stuff it makes my hair soo soft, its really cheap and smells amazing

plus u can put it on wet or dry hair :)

What hair straightener/hair products are best for permed, African American hair?

I was thinking of using the motions hair products, but if you know of better ones please tell me. I'm also a poor college student who is not used to dealing with their own hair %26gt;.%26gt; I'm a total newbie so plz dumb down anything you tell me.

I don't need to worry about perms-I'll let my beautician handle that. I just can't continue going to her place every two weeks.

Also, how often should I wash my hair? I've heard some say something about a deep conditioner once a week?? Plz help-experts or experienced people only, please. What hair straightener/hair products are best for permed, African American hair?
Motions? lol Oh big no no thats cheap and crapy I know it's used in some salon but no

I have A FHI Iron no not Chi FHI,I use Redken smooth down heat glide serum to protect it

shampoo redken,bedhead and Pantnene tresemme

same as for conditioners

any questions ask me What hair straightener/hair products are best for permed, African American hair?
For your money you can't do much better than Motions After Shampoo Moisture Plus Conditioner after a wash and Wonder 8 Miracle Oil every other day. And believe it or not Frizzease Daily Leave-In Conditioner is great too. Use it just before you blowdry and it will make your hair healthy and bouncy. After that you can flat-iron your hair and the style should last. Just remember to wrap your hair each night and keep it conditioned. It makes a big difference.

Temperature for straightener. hair goes frizzy as hell when i brush it but i dont want to kill it straightenin?

yeah my hair is naturally curly but once i brush it it frizzes up and looks ridiculous. i would straighten it every day, but it takes ages cos my hairs really long %26amp; although i use heat protect spray stuff i dunno if straightening still damages your hair.

MOST IMPORTANTLY my straightener only goes up to 230 degrees and it doesnt straighten properly. is my striaghtener not hot enough or is my hair just retarded?Temperature for straightener. hair goes frizzy as hell when i brush it but i dont want to kill it straightenin?
I have really curly hair too that also frizzes if its brushed or even a hand ran threw it. If your going to straighten your hair you need a good STRAIGHTENER. Chi is a great one they also have a GVP that is a little cheaper around 50 dollars but your going to need one that goes to at least 400 degrees. I straighten my hair everyday and it looks great and I don't have damage.

I have been straighting for 10 years and my hair is healthy.Temperature for straightener. hair goes frizzy as hell when i brush it but i dont want to kill it straightenin?
the key is to not brush your hair. when you get done washing your hair, use a towel to gently squeeze out extra water. use your fingers to separate your curls and part your hair, do not use a brush or comb. add your styling products (curl creme, mousse or something like biosilk) and now leave it to air dry and do not touch til it is completely dry.

you can waste your time battling your curly hair and damaging it with a straightener because straight hair is a 'fad' right now, OR, you can learn to love the natural texture of your hair and style it properly and you will always look good. the choice is yours.
Sometimes it doesn't matter how hot your straightener goes but what's important is the quality of it. I recommend a Chi. They're pretty expensive, but they will straighten any type of hair and pretty quickly. It helps if you straighten by layers, going slowly from root to ends, and try an anti frizz serum.
Well! thats not lfair enough, but u should consult with some specialist. What i can do for u is to just guide u to my trust..

  • Chemical straightener & hair dye & thick hair?

I have rather thick hair. I used to straighten it every day for years, on top of dying it once a month. I stopped straightening my hair, and I've noticed it felt alot better. It's been awhile, and I've gone without straightening it, but I miss that, and I was thinking of getting it chemically done, I just have a few issues. I dye my hair on my own (I don't go to a salon). My hair is rather thick, and so I normally let it air dry, and it can get rather poofy. If I get it chemically straightened, will it be straight and frizzy? Or will it be straight and sleek like it is when I use a flat iron.Chemical straightener %26amp; hair dye %26amp; thick hair?
Your hair will stay straight until the straight perm wears off (it's usually half a year - a year. as your stylist.)

It's usually thin and fresh from the iron for the first few weeks, then it become more of a natural looking straight, (but it's still /really/ straight and still thin.)Chemical straightener %26amp; hair dye %26amp; thick hair?
i'm exactly the same i dye mine all the time, but i have a chemical straighten. if you get a chemical straighten it does get kind of dry but you jut get a really good conditioner and it sort out the problem. if you stopped dying it and got a chemical straighten it would probably be quite straight... mine is, i still use my Straightener but just to style it. it will be straight and it will look really really good, just take care and use good conditioners

    CHI straightener......Hair growth??

mkayy, soo i just got bangs like demi lovato and they are really cute, but my hair is kinda short, sooo i really want to grow it out, ive benn like reaserching and i found this like MEGA nutrient shampoo thats sposed to help your hair grow really fast.....soo is it any good?i think its called fourmula 31...21??

also, are chi straighteners any good, becuase ppl tell me that it like frys your hair and breaks easilyy.....help pleasee!!=]]CHI straightener......Hair growth??
Anything that claims to make your hair grow fast is lying to you. The only thing that can make your hair grow is time, however there are things that you can use to ensure that it grows out healthy.

Any time you use heat on your hair you run the risk of doing some damage.CHI straightener......Hair growth??
well i have had experiences with chi's in the past my advice DON'T get it. 2 of mine caught hire in the socket and my other one the power cord fell out
you can't use the chi irons everyday otherwise they will burn your hair out
    there super good

    i love them
chi straighteners are horrible. they fry your hair and break really easily. everything you've heard is true. trust me. i read the reviews before when i was thinking about getting one, and it made me change my mind.

my sister wouldn't listen, and she asked for one for christmas. so my mom got her one and it broke after literally like 3 days or so. if a bunch of people are reviewing a product the same way, it's probably true! plus even the good reviews it gets a lot of those people still admit that they break and you have to replace them every 6 months to a year. they just said it was worth it, which is completely idiotic if you ask me.

you have to baby your hair if you want it to grow. eat well, drink lots of water, get some exercise, lots of sleep...all the basics. try not to straighten your hair all that often. don't blow dry it on anything over medium heat. low is best, and if you have a cool setting on your dryer, even better. that's what i do. i either blow dry it on the cool setting, or i shower the night before so i don't have to blow dry it at all. then it can air dry, and if i want it straight then i'll do it the next morning. it really helps your hair a lot.

also if you are too impatient in the mean time, just get extensions. euronext is a really good brand. they clip in so they won't damage your hair, and also they last for a very long time. they look great and come in a bunch of different colors, so one is almost guarenteed to match your hair color.
CHI's do not last long. They break way too easily. Don't waste your money, and don't listen to the one's that are telling you it's the best. Sedu is one of the best straighteners out there and it is only $100.

To purcase a Sedu at the cheapest price, go to Folica.com , scroll to the very top and click on Hair Styling. On the left hand side, there will be and A - Z brand list. Find Sedu, click on it, and everything else from there is self - explanitory.

For more information on a Sedu, you can go to sedubeauty.com.

    Curling with a Sedu:

I would also recommend using a 1 inch instead of 1 1/2 inch, because the 1 1/2 doesn't do curls very well.

It reaches 410 degrees, with tempature control if you would like a lower tempature. CHI does not have tempature control. That means if the set tempature is too high for your hair, it can fry.

Celebrities have nice hair, and they don't use CHI. They use Sedu. There is something called Sedu hairstyles on every beauty website. No CHI hairstyles right?

    Never use on wet hair.

Also, on Folica.com, people can post reviews on products after they have tried them. Here are they stats on CHI:

68 people say it is 1 star (bad) out of out of 1202 total reviews.

    Sedu:

21 people say it is 1 star (bad) out of 3775 total reviews.

    That speaks for itself!

If your hair starts to get damaged, turn down the tempature.

    Take a look at this.

Sedu is the top flat iron and there is proof!

    Which straightener/hair dryer is best?

I'm going to Ulta later and I was going to get a new blowdryer and straightener. I was looking at this one for a straightener, http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productD鈥?/a>

I like it because my friend has it and I know it works good. But I was also looking at this one because I like the color http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productD鈥?/a>

which one is better? or are there any other good ones at ulta? and also which hair dryer at Ulta is best?

Thanks :)Which straightener/hair dryer is best?
I love Ulta, if you get a straightner and a blowdryer you should get some of the best ones there, they are expensive, but they last and do a great job.

I have a Chi dryer, omg, its so fast and pretty, its a blue one, while Chi is expensive, it lasts for a good while, so unlike those other products that will dye fast these wont, my dryer works just as well as the first day I used it.

I also have a chi straighner, its fast and awesome, i love Chi, its fast and salon quality.Which straightener/hair dryer is best?
Check out http://www.topstraighteningiron.com. The site has some good information about the best hair straighteners and where you can find them at the lowest price.

What is a good straightener/hair spray?

okay, so my hair is super thick and it's cut like scene hair. (a bunch of short layers if you don't know what it looks like google it or something :p )

anyways, I'd like to find one that can be used on wet hair and gets pretty hot.

also if you know of a good hairspray that holds hair but doesn't leave it crunchy and smells good :D

currently I have bed head masterpiece but it smells funky aha.

so tell me if you know of any.

Thanks you :]What is a good straightener/hair spray?
Straightener: The Instyler is always a great tool when you're dealing with hair.

And honestly, when you use a straightener on wet hair, it really damages your hair.

I'm sorry, but no suggestions for hairspray. Try to get something as natural as it can be: it makes the chemically-smell and crunchiness go away.

Hope this helped!!What is a good straightener/hair spray?
I use Aussie Mega, and Aussie Volumizing hair spray. They both work really well.
Wet2straight Remington straightener is the best i've ever used in my life and it's under $30 at target or walgreens.

For scene hair use RAVE. It's got awesome hold and comes in a HUGE bottle. It's $3 or $4, i can't remember which, but the container is so big it looks like it will never run out.
